Recipes for rabbits

Tulip and Scotty have dental disease. Tulip has had a few surgeries and is on twice-weekly penicillin. Scotty is on a smaller does of penicillin once a week.

Their teeth problems prevent them from eating much hay,  so I developed this recipe to get hay into their diets when they don’t voluntarily eat it.

The mashed greens with hay recipe is based on their standard carrots and greens recipe. (This is what I call when it’s time to eat – very cute to watch ears perk up and bodies move to the call!)

I’m no dietitian, but they don’t lose weight eating this mix and if you don’t feed them treats, their bottoms remain largely clean and they can manage the occasional runny bum on their own.

Note that I always offer them fresh hay and encourage them to chew as much as possible – they have to grind down their teeth and the jaw muscles must remain active.
